The interface
When you open a design, StitchMotion shows one window with four main areas.
1. The preview
The large area in the middle shows your design on the chosen background. This is a true preview — what you see here is exactly what gets exported. You can click an overlay to select and move it, and scrub the timeline to jump to any moment of the stitch-out.
2. The file-info bar
Along the top of the preview you'll find:
- the Preset menu (wand icon) — save and reuse your settings (Presets);
- the file name;
- three quick facts about the design — stitch count, size in millimeters, and number of colors;
- a PRO badge if you've unlocked Pro;
- a close button to open a different file.
3. The settings rail
The panel on the right is where you shape the look:
- Format — the aspect ratio (Square, Vertical, Landscape, Portrait).
- Style — the render look (Lines, Relief), with its density, shadow and gloss settings.
- Shadow & light — a drop shadow and its light direction.
- Background — a solid color, a fabric texture, your own image, or transparent.
- Threads — map the design's colors to a real thread catalog, or recolor by hand.
These are covered in Customizing the look.
4. The timeline
Below the preview is the transport and timeline:
- Play / Pause (or the Space bar) and a scrub track.
- The Length control — how long the exported video runs.
- The Stitch lane — which part of the design animates.
- An Audio lane for music.
- The overlay toolbar — add text, a logo, and data overlays.
- The needle marker and end card.
